ATI look like toys. Nvidia look professional.

So, i guess i could make a thread entitled: ATI cards use Cheap Plastic but quality GPUs and Nvidia Cards use Quality Plastic and Cheap GPUs for an outlandish price. Well, maybe that wouldn't all fit in the title bar, but i think my point is taken.

    Resetting My Network Noob Style

What you need to do is right click on your network icon in the task bar (or go into network settings from the control panel, then right click the network icon) and go to Properties. This should bring up a menu with two tabs. on the networking tab, scroll down to internet protocol version 4...

    Wireless Card

well, wireless access just doesn't have as much bandwidth capabilities as good old fashioned wired connections. wireless can be best described as a temporary situation for gaming. you're best to go with the more reliable wired connection. wireless is good for surfing but not much more.

    ATI 4870 or Nvidia 9800GTX?

Yeah, but if he gets the 4870, he'll have the way more classy and elegant AMD chip. $8 for shipping is insult to injury if he has to get a GPU that he can use for a Heatsource in the winter time..................... (Innocent Ribbing, Not Flaming)

    SD-RAM Compatibility Issues

well, i know that this isn't really what you wanted to hear, but.............. Upgrading a machine with SDRAM is really pointless. If it uses SDRAM, it's likely that the CPU is pretty old and that it wouldn't support anything better. Regardless, i'm going to make a suggestion. Perhaps 128MB...

    Computer Neophyte

The only way you're going to run Crysis at 90-100 FPS at high is to start adding multiple video cards and do some Overclocking. What you've got going isn't shabby at all. In fact, i agree with Kilauea on the $900 setup. that's nice for that price. To give you some idea, i'm going to be running...

What is The Danger of Not Turning Your COmputer Off

Acutally, there COULD be a danger if you DON'T leave it running, but the chances are remote. It's called "Chip Creep". When the chips in your computer expand and contract, it tends to losen them in their sockets and they work their way out. these days, most of the chips are Soldered in though...

    Resetting My Network Noob Style

Now i'm starting to get confused................... every Computer that is attached to the router and needs to access the internet, should use the Router's internal interface IP address as a default gateway. At this point, i can't be sure that it's 192.168.1.97, but that might be it...

    Resetting My Network Noob Style

you say the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and the default gateway is 10.0.0.1? that won't work. windows won't even let you use that subnet for that network i think. 10.0.0.xxx is a class A network and requires a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0. Another thing to look at is your firewall settings. if you...

    Resetting My Network Noob Style

It's wierd that the router would have an IP of 10.0.0.0 as that is the Network ID of that Subnet, but i'll go with it. since your XP computer can surf, we know that IP will work. You need to try the following: 1 Make sure that all of your computers have a default gateway that matches the...

    Resetting My Network Noob Style

well, you should have a private scheme. there are certain private IP addresses that you can use. your Router uses PAT or NAT to get them out to the Internet. Here's a list of Private IPs. Gonna try to do this from Memory. 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 255.255.255.0 172.16.0.0 -...

    Resetting My Network Noob Style

alright, i'm gonna try to tackle this. does the vista pc have a default gateway enabled that matches the router's internal interface IP address? i ask this because i assume you are connecting both of these pcs on a network with the router at the center. I notice you metioned RJ-11. are you...

    :( My Screen Hangs

that could be any number of problems. it could be HEAT. Maybe it's the PSU. You're gonna have to troubleshoot. i would try heat first. one thing you can do right off is make sure the inside of your computer isn't covered with a layer of dust. this is common. the fans pull in all manner of dust...

RAID0 with RAID1 on the side

well, i'm not sure from a hardware standpoint, but i know you could swing it in Windows as a Software RAID. The only catch there is that you already have to have windows installed on a Partition first for this to work. It seems kind of odd. it's almost like a RAID 10 (1+0), but not quite. I...

    Moving Programs

yes, you CAN run programs from another drive. the problem is that you would have to actually INSTALL them on that drive. there are registry files that most programs need to function, and if you just move an already installed program, it will look for that program on the drive that you originally...
