laptop toshiba tecra 8000 speed processor?

No, there is no processor you can install (safely and knowledgeably) to increase the speed. The best and easiest thing you can do is buy a new laptop for ~500$ and it will be faster than anything you've ever seen (judging by your current laptop).

    Need help please.

You can run housecall but it might not always get the virus due to access issues. If you can put the drive as a slave in another system and run housecall or another antivirus program such as Avast, AVG, or even Antivir it should be able to get rid of it.

fans spin for a second then nothing

Could be a problem with the Gfx card/slot. If he has an extra PCIe card to throw it in and see if it will boot. If it boots with the PCIe card then it's a card problem. If it still won't boot with another PCIe card in there it's most likely a slot problem.

Need Help with choosing a new computer

Ask him what dual core chip it is as well as all the other parts (brand AND models if you can) and then quote it online. If you don't feel comfortable building your own or using BUILDING COMPUTERS 101 then I'd say keep looking for different computers, or pay the 1500$ for the one he wants to...

Odd issue, even for a pc repairman! Think u can figure it out?

Correction: You don't need the NET for anything and you can get a virus without it. And I'm still sticking with a software issue such as codec or driver.

Odd issue, even for a pc repairman! Think u can figure it out?

Sounds like it might be a software problem (could also be virus, spyware/adware, any number of things), open Task Manager before hand and see what's running when you do the video and see if any 1 program spikes on either mem or cpu usage (other than MPC or VLC [which I assume you're using cause...

New Build would you change anything?

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=101220-12 83$ for the WD, save yourself some money and some shipping, and I bet if you looked for the other parts on ZZF you could save some more money. Overall though the setup monkeysims showed looks pretty good.

    Cheap Desktop.

    It's a CTX which will hit 2048 x 1600 @ 150Hz refresh (not that I'd ever need it) and 200Hz at 1600 x 1200 (again, not that it's needed).

AGP The 2 on the bottom are ISA followed by the white ones which are PCI and the top one which is AGP (3.3v it looks like) If it will take a tualatin you could OC it to a beast and you'd be able to play most new games.

Doesn't matter, you put in a new CPU, resetting the BIOS should have worked.

WTB: Socket A mobo and processor

I'd look into finding an old Gateway machine on ebay, they are about the size of a large hardcover book and are PIII chips with 6USB ports and are low profile. That might be what you need instead of trying to find an XP mobile.
