Well first to see if it is the OS that is making it shut off, boot from a bootable Linux CD. If it shuts off then it is the Hardware. Chances are it is a faulty power supply. Edit: sorry I didnt see that this problem was fixed. My bad

I am running Win 7 64 bit and I use VLC player. I think it should have all the codec you need. edit: I researched and it said tha VLC plays HD DVD's so it should work for your HD stuff

You mean Spyware? Tech yes since it is coming off of a server, but no since it does not replicate, unless it is in email. Generally spyware is like a mini version of a virus. That is how I look at it anyways.
