Keep the third dimm as a spare in case one of the other two is defective or develops faults at some later point. It never hurts to have spare memory onhand.![]()
Guys, I was hoping you could give me some advice on which way to configure my new laptop computer. I don't really think I will need 1.5GB. But Lenovo is giving 512MB free RAM now. But if I get 1.5 I lose out on any performance advantage from dual-channel.
What should I do?
do you guys think 1.5GB will be more than is needed for Windows Vista too?
Ignore this ignorant person. If you are planning to game alot you may want to go straight to 2gb and ignore the ignorance expressed by certain people. Having 2gb of ram will meet any needs that come up with either XP or Vista. Vista is going to be more of a memory hog then XP ever was.

Vista ran fine with 512MB.
I would recommend the 1GB dual channel, provided that your motherboard has 4 RAM slots.

I know all about the different Vista versions. All I was saying was that it is possible to run Vista with only 512MB of RAM. Which is not incorrect. Obviously you couldn't run the higher-end versions. I still don't see what the problem is here....You seem to be the only ignorant person. There will be 5 separate versions. The "beta only" version is a stripped developers evaluation copy and not the full retail with all of the "goodies" included. The actual system requirements will depend primarily on which version you go with. The following articles continue to point at 1gb while the Basis is the only seen listed as 512mb.
Take the 1.5, when you get home pop out the 512 and sell it and save some money and get another 1 gb stick
