i need some DDR2 667 memory, should i get dual channel?

and i think its a little cheaper to go with 1 stick than 2 512s, my goal is to keep it under 100$

that is what i have in the cart now, but dont know much about ram, it has a 15$ mail in rebate but it goes out tomorrow,so should i go ahead and get it?

i want a heat spreader so it will "look cooler" :D

well, the thing that seperates 2x512 financially is that its cheaper to replace a 512 than a 1 gig stick, but other than that, dual channel will offer you a slight advantage over single in many cases. a heat spreader isnt so much for looks as it is for protection and......spreading heat! led lights, on the other hand, may make it look cooler...:)

imo, go with dual channel unless you are planning on upgrading later to your mobos max.

lol. most of the time, if a stick has a spreader on it its because its a better performer. as for the value ram, it wont be top of the line, but it will do good.

so should i order the stick i have in my cart so i at least get the 15$ rebate?

its patriot signature, has a heat spreader, dual channel 97$ with 15 off, and im poor so even though it will be a while before the money comes back at least its 15 mor ethan i had :)

what about mushkin or geil or is patriot a ok brand? because the mushkin is 89$ and has heat shield, and geil is 94 and has a heat shield and patriot is 98 and 15 rebate

yeah, patriot is a good brand. i have it and it runs well.:)

If both your CPU and your mobo supports dual chanell I say go for that. If it does not, which make sure to check get the 1gb stick ebcause then later on when you can support dual channel and ram cost less for 1gb, you can get just another 1gb stick.

the cpu will be a pentium d 920, and the mobo is a Asus p5ld2 i dont see anything on newegg about them being dual channel

right. only a few things dont support dual channel, so the only time it will be obvious is when it DOESNT support it...for example, on socket 754 mobos.

am i right if u get 2 the same 512's or 2 the same 1gb you ahve dual channel is dual channel better than single channel my mobo supports it you think i should get?

Yes, if you get 2 of the same size and same type of memory then it will be dual channel, and dual channel is better then single channel. I would get it if you have the money.

And just for the record, you can mix and match different brands of RAM, but it works better if there both the same exact ram.
