1 out of 5 Times My Computer Wont Start Up Fully

Okay so I've been having this problem for a while now.
The computer will start up but the task bar will remain empty,
it will just sit there and not load anything, I've left it like that for several hours and nothing happened. It is usually solved by a reboot, but it's getting to be a pain in the ass. My first thought is that it has to do with the programs or
processes it's starts on boot. But I just assumed that my computer is more
than equipped.

Anyway, thanks in advance

Ben

Video drivers can be a real pain at times! That happened here more frequently with a new ATI driven card when the Catalyst 7.9 were used. This was seen in both XP and Vista until the 7.10 was released about a week ago. That would one thing to look at.

Is that a new model out or an older one there? You can easily use the msconfig utility by typing msconfig at the Run prompt and look in the startup group for anything you don't need starting up along with Windows. That can easily free up some resources and may resolve some type of driver conflict.

I go into run on my start menu then type MSCONFIG.exe atleast once a week. I hate it, everytime you install a new program it seems the default settings of the program are to immediately startup whenever Windows starts.

So if you don't keep up on it, when Windows starts you will end up with five or more programs trying to start when you log on. It hogs up the resources on your system and makes your startup run slow.

For the most part the problem being seen there is with the display drivers. While Vista has seen great results with the latest catalyst seeing correcions there XP still sees a problem with the Start taskbar. When inactive most of the taskbar seems to go transparent where the deskop color is seen. It's like someone spilling a paint can and runs over the taskbar. I know that is from the latest drivers out.

If something else is clashing with the display the msconfig can easily isolate it by removing it from the startup items. I suspect the version of the current drivers is the likely cause there however. If you were in the right click and properties menu to select the notification area you can hide or unhide icons in the system tray. There's a little arror button there to see that slide open to expose whatever icons are hidden since you mentioned not seeing anything on the bar itself.
