I've got some friends who want to buy a PC..

They want to use it for crap like the net and filing documents.

They need a monitor, mouse, and keyboard, suggest basic M+K, and a 19" to 22" decently priced monitor.

Intel CPU, if a video card Nvidia, and if you guys know of a decent scanner/printer combo it'd be good if you could suggest one.

I personally think $1000 is a bit pricey for what they want to use it for, so going waaaay under budget would be preferable.

It'd also be handy if you guys used as part sources:

http://www.umart.com.au/newindex2.phtml?bid=6

so the prices are correct in Australia.

www.pccasegear.com.au is quite good. umart is probably still cheaper though.

I'll do a build from PCCG. But does it need to be intel and nvidia? I'll try an AMD/Ati build for that first... might not be enough for intel and nvidia.

CPU: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_345&products_id=12979

Mobo: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_803&products_id=13540

RAM: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=186_538_913&products_id=13237

GPU: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_996&products_id=13378

PSU: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_535&products_id=10980

HDD: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_344&products_id=11863

Case: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_547&products_id=13532

DVD Burner: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=12661

Monitor: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=558_1086_1094&products_id=14207

That's $866 for those parts & the monitor. I put 4GB of RAM in because remembering that most people don't stop programs from running on startup, especially people that just use the net and word docs. also more likely to install anything that asks, lol.

As for a printer i have no clue. do these guys have a copy of windows? makes sense to use an x64 version...

just in case: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=375_974&products_id=12847

That's $1001 in total, lol. you can get a decent printer for $59 at the post office anyway. as for keyboard and mouse, just standard $20 each logitech stuff i'd imagine.

I'm not so sure that you would need a quad if you are going to be using the internet with it and such:p, i'd go with just an athlon II X2:
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_345&products_id=12138

And a $139 aud GPU seems a bit of a waste, i'd just use the integrated graphics on the board, or maybe even put a few more bucks into a board with better integrated graphics:
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_803&products_id=14528

As far as HDD...you could go a bit cheaper on a caviar blue, quiter than the blacks and cheaper:
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_344&products_id=38

Antec 450W psu cheaper and more effecient:
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_535&products_id=13454

Memory...same thing, GeIL uses similar IC's to that corsair, save $10 by going with it:
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=186_538_913&products_id=14254

Not a fan of asus optical drives...i'd get a sony optiarc:
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=658_667&products_id=12865

Otherwise, yours is a solid build for the budget....but perhaps geared a bit more towards a gamer than just an everyday user.
