1000mbits ethernet

Can i run 1000mbits over a category 5 wire or do i need a cat6? How does it work exactly?

CAT5e will work, as well as CAT6.

Meaning i can't run it at all or it would just run slower at 100 instead of 1000.

If you're just using regular CAT5 and not CAT5e, then I believe it will only run at 100Mbps.

I highly recommend Cat6, Cat5e is just an enhanced version of Cat5. It will run Gigabit Ethernet but I recommend Cat6.

Through LAN? Free! and yes, gigabit is feasible for games and whatnot. Especially for large networks where a lot of bandwidth is needed.

Theres a huge difference between having a 1000Mb LAN network and a 1000Mb internet connection, I hope you werent being serious.
