100mb zip drive and win 2000

on my older backup computer I have a iomega 100mb zip drive which came installed approx 15 years ago. at some point I installed windows 2000. Ive also since reformatted the c drive and naturally do not have an updated driver if one is needed . Im trying to get all the data off my zip disks before archiving the drive. It shows up as a d drive but just asks me to put in a disk even though theres one in it. Not recognized? not compatable with w2000?

I did do the process as you suggested . Input for me was W2000 and zip drive 100mb scsi. I got the program from iomega installed now. When I reboot I see on initial powerup that the zip drive is found as I did before. When I go into devices in control panel it indicates all is well with the zip drive. IN 'my computer' the zip drive is indicated as my 'D' drive. when I insert a zip disk with stuff already on it ,nothing happens except hearing 2 clicks . I then click on the 'D' drive icon in 'my computer' and and the message 'insert a disk appears' even though I've tried all of 6 proven disks .I suspect the answer is probably simple. It is elusive though right now

From what your saying, it may be one of two things:

1: the drive died and is unable to read the disks anymore
or
2: the disks went bad and they cannot be read.

I had a ZIP drive, but I never used it. My dad did for backup, and it was a serial external drive too ,so I can't be of much help other than that.

interesting. Feedback on zip 100 mb scsi drives mechanicaly going bad would be appreciated. I guess its possible for that to be the case too. I usually assume that these know company names make a durable product. I havent really used it that much but it is old at this point. I may due surgery as a last resort.

I use to use the zip drives all the time for backing up photos and critical information.Once cds became burnable...well No more.
