1080i for gaming

It is really no different then any other resolution except there is more screen and you need a higher end system to power it.
If your playing on a console for it then I dunno as I only own the PS2 and below (hate the new consoles for quality and game selections)

Why 1080i? That's basically dead as 1080p is the new standard. Wasn't 1080i only used in the period where you saw "HD Ready TVs"?

The resolution is the highest that most tvs and consoles support, but the i means interlaced mode. Due to the fact that old tvs (when they were first invented) were not fast enough to update at a smooth framrate, the picture would be drawn every other line, then the other half of the lines would be drawn. When TVs got fast enough, p came out, allowing us to draw all the lines in order and results in a smoother picture. When we upgraded to 1920 x 1080, we had the same issue. I got a tv in that funny period when it could draw 1280 x 720 (720p) in "p" mode (progressive) but 1080 was in i (interlaced), and not p. My xbox 360 plays fine at 1080i. If you can, go with p.

1080i isnt as good as 720p, at least if there is any speed involved with the picture. i have one of those old 1080i 50" plasmas and 720p is much better (and there are articles online explaining why 1080i is blurry and not as good)
I have a 720p 42'' plasma, and if the channel broadcasts good HD the picture quality is fantastic.
But I really would assume we are talking PC monitors here? Are you saying 1080 vs some other resolution like 1280x1024? I LOVE my 1080p monitor for gaming, I came from a 1600x1200 crt monitor so the quality was still good but I love 1080 because it gives you a broader view.
