12 volt laptop?

A fairly untechnical question folks - I've got an old Toshiba laptop that I use to set up the ECU on my car. The battery has finally died and I really can't justift spending £40 on a new one for a computer that is worth zilch and lives in my garage for very occasional use.

The battery is rated at 10.8 volts, do you suppose I'd get away with trying to run it off a 12v car battery or will that just kill it?

Yeah, that's not going to work, because you have to match the current (amps) as well as the voltage. What you would be able to do is get a car power inverter which converts 12v DC into 110v AC and then just use the AC power cable to run the laptop:
