128 MB GFX Card Pentium 3 possible?

ok so basically that is the question. Like what I have said days ago, when I last posted here, I only have an 800 mhz Pentium 3 computer. Right now, it only has a 64 mb graphic card and I want to buy a 128 mb graphic card for it but someone told me that a 128 mb graphic card does not work for "old and nearly phased out computers" like mine. Is that true?

You can use any card providing it has the correct slot on your motherboard, I'm guessing your motherboard uses PCI slots? The white ones, there is normally about 3 or 4 of these.

Provided you have the correct slot, you can put in ANY graphics card you want. I tried putting a 6800 Ultra into a P3 900Mhz system, the performance was so laggy, but that was to be expected as the bottleneck is the system's CPU.

Meaning...I would experience a sluggish system in case I changed the graphic card to a 128 mb one?

you technically experience a sluggish system right now. no, it wouldnt get worse, but it will not allow the graphics card to perform its best because of the processor limitations

EDIT: you will also be able to use 3d applications, however laggy they may run. new graphics cards arent alwys bought for performansce upgrades, they sometimes are bought because, say an upgrade from dx8 to dx9 is needed for a game, youll want a new graphics card for that.

It depends on what graphics it is, plus your system is going to be laggy with games anyway. A p3 is ancient. Note that I say games, it should be able to handle web, and word processing with ease.

Yep, if you put a powerful graphics card in a lower ended system, then your 3D performance will be limited by your CPU.

by limited you mean...there wouldn't be much difference regarding the graphic resolution of my computer? or my computer will be slower than usual?

ahh..lols..I should really get a new computer one of these days if I'm not so financially strapped lmao

no nessacery(i cant spell ok) true depends what type of bus u have, do u have a AGP slot if not then ur gona have to find a PCI graphic's card which i really donno if they do make PCI FX cards that have 128 memory but im not 2 sure on that... maybe its just time for an upgrade from ur P3 thats likes 5 years old or more im guessin .. maybe even older than that .. wen was P3's around?

I don't have games installed on my system (except the default ones) and I don't really care about those. The reason why I'm trying to upgrade the RAM and the memory card of my computer is that I want to use Adobe Photoshop CS2 and it requires a better system than what I have and than what I can afford right now lols.

Why are you upgrading your graphics if you are financially strapped? Computers are pretty cheap now, I'm just a student and I manage to buy a high end gaming PC.

I think it is an AGP slot.

here in my country..everything computer related is sooo expensive and I'm just trying to buy spare parts which will not cause me much since I'm really satisfied with my computer and it's just the Photoshop that's been bugging me.

Right, So you have an AGP slot and it's for CS2 and not gaming... I don't think a better graphics card would be the thing to upgrade there, I think some more RAM would be better.

Yeah chuck some more RAM or maybe a faster CPU in would lift your computer's performance dramatically, more than a graphics card will ever will.

In your country its expensive did u say .... where do u live .. is it expensive or is it that u get paid little or is ur money worth jack to us dolla's cause most stuff comes from the US so they have 2 buy it from there ... . .. . yea .. maybe think about buying from overseas and getting it shipped.
