well I certainly hope that the cards mem will NOT be your deciding factor . you can have a 256mb card and still get poor performance in Doom3 and other games ;-)..

I have a geforce 3 right now and am seriously looking to upgrade to a 6800 or something. Would it be better for me (for gaming) to get a 6800 with 128 mb of ram or something a bit lower like a 5700 with 256 mb of ram?

It's up to you....a less kinda budget 5700, a higher budget 6800 The 6800 will beat the 5700 even if it has 128mb less.

You can (here in Canada) get 6800s (the BFG 6800OC to be exact) that run about $130 more than 5700s.

For about $200-$230 more you can geta 6800GT

My 6800GT came just over $600. and I thought that was good as it was the cheapest I could find. compusmart even sells the BFG 6800GT for $699. which is aprox. $80. more then what I spent.
