Hi, I have one 160gb hard disc and am thinkign about getting an additional harddisk for backup incase HDD error etc. Also would i be better buying an additional harddisc for music on so that i have 2 drives, one for backup and storaging music and movies and the other for like everything else, XP etc?

Also if i just get a HDD for backup and then partition my 160gb harddisc into 3 parttions will is improve/decrease its general performance?

Partition would be something like

10gb for linux (which havent installed at all yet on my current drive)
60gb for music and movies
and 90gb for xp, internet, college work, games etc.

What you all think or is their a better way u guys recon?

Also woud it be any better if i just installed xp on its own parttion and data anywhere else. Reason in wanting to do this partitoning is so runs easier and helps to keep it more organised.

that would be quite a small partion if your just going to put xp in there.
90GB isnt a small partition for windows.
yea, id say it would be better to put windows and programs on one partition and all other data on another. it saves backing everything up if you ever re do windows

for i would get a small hdd for all of your back ups. this is just in case the primary hdd goes to shit and you don't lose nothing importain

he means another seperate partion for xp not the one hes already got!

whenever i have a large boot drive i make two partition one as storage one as backup. viruses cant infect pass though other partitions.

well i will have an additional drive for backup and then maybe partition the 160 for for music and everythgin else.
