1680 x 1050 WTF?

I want to get a new monitor, and the sceptre 20.1" screen i'm looking at has 1680x1050 resolution, but 99% of video cards (mine included) say they support 1600x1200 maximum with DVI.

Is 1600x1200 just a generalization, and they're capable of 1680x1050? Or do i need to get a card that's 1920x1200 just for the extra 80 lines that this monitor has?

Extremely frustrating, the cards that support 1920x1200 are a lot more expensive, and i really want to use dvi. :(

what card do you have

most current cards have a maximum of around 2560 X 1600 and i think some are in the 3000's X 2000's

and i dont think its an issue of max width or max height the amount of pixels

1600 X 1200 is about 1920000 pixels (1 million 920 thousand)

1680 X 1050 is about 1764000 pixels (1 million 764 thousand)

n/m i was looking at the at firemv quad-monitor pci-express card, which had the 1600x1200 max. resolution with DVI. With vga, it could go higher.....

Instead, i'm sticking with my x1300pro pci-express, and got a PCI x1300 for the other two monitors.

They both support well over 1920x1280, so i'll be good now.

Thanks guys.

The deciding factor for me was not the resoltion, but i don't believe the firemv cards have any 3d acceleration, and are simply work-machines.

Although the 256mb memory on such a card is baffling.

I'm better off with my x1300, and the PCI x1300 has two dvi outputs, and was only $85, compared to the $400 i was gonna drop for the firemv with no 3d :(
