17 inch PC monitor

Hey Guys,
I need to know what other usages could a 17" flat desktop monitor have since I m replacing my desktop with a laptop and I prefer not to put the monitor away in the storage.

You can extend your desktop so that you can see 2 different things at once such as a youtube video and browse the web.

thank you for your tip. can you tell how I can manage to do that. plus I only have a VGA hook up port on the monitor.

can I hook it up to my laptop thru the VGA port available? also, I have a small 10" net book as well. Maybe I can hook that up to it . that unit has both HDMI and VGA ports. I understand there are VGA cables to use for VGA hook up so that could be the solution for that. But I ve also have heard of people turning their unused monitors into TVs and used them as TVs or set it up as security system monitors hooked up to cameras. Is there any other way of using the monitor that you can think of?
