Hi,

I just bought 2x 512mb DDR400 PC3200... so i have configured these dual channel, and i have completely removed my old PC2700 512mb.

Here is my question:

Since my computer will only run as fast as it's slowest link, which is a better config... just the 2 PC3200's or the 2 PC3200's AND the PC2700?

I have tried both configurations and I THINK the fastest one is w/ just the 2 PC3200's.

I do run games on this pc, right now i have Need For Speed Underground 2 and Far Cry. I have been able to change the display settings in both games since i have installed the new ram. When I receive my new ATi 9800 Pro AIW card I will be installing GTA San Andreas and Half Life 2. I did a test of how much ram was being used during gameplay of NFS U2, and it was only 366mb. I am thinking that 1gb is plenty for me and there is no reason to drag down the speed to 2700 (btw, my motherboard supports 3200 max). But maybe I am wrong and I should throw the other slower 512mb in as well, especially when I get my new Vid Card and i install the new games.... your thoughts please....thanks! :)

yeah but you're running pc3200 LOL

u can benmark the 2x512 ddr3200 and then benchmark the 2x512+512 but the winner probably gonna be in DUAL CHANNEL.

1GB of PC3200 for most stuff ... if yer doing stuff that is limited by RAM quantitiy (i.e., heavy photoshop, premier, encoding etc) than the 1.5GB PC2700 is better

And what happens if the benchmark is a MPEG4-->MPEG2(DVD) encode? hehe
