I just purchased a new laptop. It is a compaq Presario V6000. There are several things that I am sure I dont need on this laptop and cant get them removed. The first thing would be norton. It says its removed but the icon is still on the desktop and it is still listed in the add/remove programs. Also what about other things like the ebay icon. Can I remove that. Basically all I need on this computer is my business software, quickbooks, internet access, and Microsoft excel. Some of the programs listed to uninstall I have no idea what it is. Any help and comments are appreciated.

There is a bloatware remover I have heard people mention, but I don't know what it's called.

yeah, I did the same thing for my new laptop. there is a norton removal tool available on their website or by googling norton removal tool to remove it completely. other than that, I just used ad/remove programs or the actual programs un-install option. cleaned up the icons/start menu, removed some startup programs, used a registry cleaner to remove all the excess and I was good to go.

Post a list of your Programs

Well post a list of your programs. This how you do it:

  • Download Hijackthis from here
  • Open Hijackthis
  • Click on "Open Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Open Unistall Manager"
  • Click on "Save List"
  • Save it in a location
  • Notepad will open
  • Hit Ctrl + A
  • Copy + paste in a forum reply

From the list of programs, we can tell you what ones to uninstall.
