I'd rather have better performance than save energy. Are the caviar blacks really that much better than the green or blue?

Id go with the Black,When my 250Gb seagate was been RMAd, i was using my 500Gb wd Green as my primary drive.....very slow.

If it's gonna be a primary drive, go Black. If it's just for an external, go green or blue.

Like anyone's said, go black if the money isn't much more.
I have a 1tb green as secondary, and that's still slow for my taste, i'd honestly invest the slight power and for sale price into it - it'll honestly bottleneck you if you're transferring masses of data badly (as in backups, multiple movies, legally acquired 300gb of music, etc.)

In terms of speed, Black>Blue>Green AFAIK

Greens are supposed to be low power drives, even though they fail at it.
