2.5" HHD makes noise when turned over

My laptop magnetic HDD made this clunking noise after I turned it over. Sounded like the platter moving up/down its axis. Is this normal?
 
I was swapping the HDD (whilst off) and noticed the strange noise. The other HDD I was swapping didn't make a sound when I flipped it over.

Since they're both different brands, is it possible some drives were manufactured that way (the platter is allowed to move up/down along the axis)?
