Personaly i would get 2x 500Gb because you could use 1 for storage such as music,photos,videos,important documents etc and just install windows or whateevr os and its apps to the other hdd.
I use a 80 gb for a windows drive and a 120 gb for program files and other misc. When it comes to video/music/pics...I use separate external drive for each.
