2.8GB out of 4GB of RAM in Vista x64

I just got a new computer for work. It came with the 32-bit version of Vista Home Premium. I decided to switch to the 64-bit (1) since I'm using it at home without any problems at all and (2) so I can access the full 4GB of RAM that came with it instead of just 2.8GB of it as with Vista 32.

To my surprise after making the switch I am still see only 2.8GB of RAM. Any idea why this might be? Since it shows the 2.8GB when the system first posts, my guess is that the mobo BIOS might not support the full 4GB. Do you think upgrading the BIOS will fix this? Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

I checked it out and the computer itself comes with 4GB and supports up to 8GB. I guess the only thing I can think of is either a setting in the BIOS, or you actually dont have a 64-Bit OS.

Thanks. I'll check out the BIOS tomorrow.

I'm positive that I'm running the x64 version of Vista. (1) I installed it from the same x64 media that I used to install it on my home computer. (2) The system information in Vista says that it is x64.

No Success

I upgrade the BIOS to the latest version, and still only 2.8GB of RAM. I've got an email in to ASUS's technical support, so hopefully they'll have some ideas.

Doesn't work

I enabled memory remapping and the whole system became unstable and was a mess. I was getting weird lines all over the computer and BSODs like crazy. I had to disable it.

I got this reply from tech support:

First please insure that the memory you are using is on our QVL list for the motherboard either from our website or from the memory manufacturers website, next hardcode in the correct timings for your memory so that they are all forced to work together. Last go into your bios and under the advanced memory configuration make sure that you change the memory hole from disabled to enabled and this should allow the bios to see and utilize all of the memory installed.

I'm not sure where to find the timings for my memory. I can't locate them anywhere on the web. Also, I can't find the "memory hole" anywhere in the BIOS.

I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer.
