Right I need some quick help on deciding between these two models for my brother who was until 2 minutes ago going to buy this card

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NOV-76GT

But then I found this:

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?nov-86gt&P=0

now that has thrown a spanner in the works as if I am correct in saying that the 8660GT will out perform the 7600GT, with very little price difference

But here is why I still think he should buy the 7600GT, Can some one please tell me if I am correct.

The page says the 8600 requires a 350Watts PSU but my brother has a 305Watt Dell PSU.

And secondly the 8600GT unlike the 7600GT requires a 6pin Power connector which I have just gone and checked and the only free plug I can find is a 4pin one

So can someone just clarify that my brother can't use the 8600GT with out changing the PSU (which he doesn't want to do)?

Thanks

He currently has an ATI Radeon X600 Hyper-memory 256Mb

There is a lot of mistakes in the website you posted. It says that 8600GT has 320bit bus which is wrong.

Actually, 8600GT consumes less power than 7600GT

I cant see how a reviewer could have made it out that the 7600GT is better that the 8600GT, its a newer model and the 8 series completely out performs the 7 series by far as said on the nvidia site :)

Thanks for the replies

But does the fact that my brother has a 305Watt PSU and no available 6Pin power connector make the 8660GT not a viable choice

Over the 7600GT which doesn’t require the 6pin connector

Bugger... lol i had this problem, in my thread, wanted a GPU upgrade, now im getting MoBo, CPU, PSU and my GPU just to get an upgrade and the best performance out of it :)

well.. usually when you buy a new grafic's card (retail)
it comes with something like this:
pcie_adapter_1.jpg

its 2 4-pin connectors to 1 6-pin (wich goes into the grafic's card.) and if you dont overclock it, it will even work with only 1 4-pin connector inserted in the adapter. (a friend of mine had that quite a while with his 6800GT, and that one surely consumed more power than a 7600GT as far as I know)

as for the PSU's abillity to maintain the card,.. no idea.. could you check how much Ampere (A) the PSU can deliver on the +12v line(s) ?
