2 lan ports WHAT!!!

Numerous reasons, some motherboards let you combine them to form a 2Gbps connection (if your other hardware supports it), you can also have two connections running at the same time, or you can use your PC as a firewall, as well as numerous other uses.

Maybe if you had a cable modem connected to your computer with no router and you wanted to transfer some files from a different computer without losing your connection.

Say it's a business setting and you have a computer you want on two networks, but you don't want those networks connected directly to eachother.

Sure, both of these problems could be addressed other ways, but with 2 onboard NICs they have a quick fix solution.

does this mean that my internet connection could run 2x as fast, my connection sucks and always slows down at night when internet use goes up. this would be awesome if it would make it 2x as fast

No, because your internet connection doesnt utilize the full capability of a 1Gbps port, not to mention that most internet connections are just 2Mbps-20Mbps. You would also need two modems to do that.

the objective becomes clear.

Buy two modems, and pay all kinds of money.
