2 Monitor set up

Hey everyone,

pretty basic question here:

I have one monitor connected with a vga to my pc. I have a tv that is connected with a vga to my pc in another port.

Only one monitor seems to work at a time for some reason. Is there something I can do on my computer's settings to make it recognize both at the same time?

I do not want to split the screen, just to show the same screen on different monitors.

Thanks,

It's been a while since I've had a 2 monitor set up, but I want to say that you have to go in to Display settings and check "Extend the desktop to this monitor" for your second(non-primary) monitor. I remember having a similar problem with not having both monitors working at the same time, I just know that there was a simple solution in the Display settings, either there or your GPU software(i.e. Nvidia Control Panel).

Hopefully someone else can either verify or correct me as I'm not 100% sure since it's been a couple years for me with that set up. Good luck

Edit: Also wanted to say that I think the only time the same picture will show up on both monitors will be the desktop, you'll have to manually drag any windows/programs from the primary to the secondary. That is IIRC, there may be a way to "clone" the primary monitor so that it automatically shows the same thing on both. Again, hopefully someone can correct or verify this.

What he means is he wants each to be the same, which is more than possible, you just untick "extend my desktop" eh voilà, you have a "mirror image".

Assume port 1 is the monitor port (the working one) and 2 the non-working one

If you plug your monitor into port 2, does it work?

If you plug either display into port 2 and ONLY have port 2 populated, does it work?

Are you using port 1 and 2, or are you using a splittler, to make just one of the ports into 2 ports?

If you right click your destop and click display settings, then click detect, does it find the TV, but just not display it?
