Yes. And you can have 2 hard drives, but people partition their hard drives into 2 sections and install accordingly.

So you can use 1 hard drive and just dual boot that way.
You're good then. Do you want to use 2 different drives or 1 single drive?

Then you will need to partition your hard drive, through the Vista install guide, and it's up to you on how much space you want
to dedicate for each os. Then you will simply install Vista on one, then install Win 7 on the other partition.

A lot of people don't have more than one hard drive.
Me included. That's why I partition.

There is no need of two hard drives to run two operating systems.
There is one application from called VMware Workstation, this application makes it simple to create and run multiple virtual machines on your desktop or laptop computer.
Each virtual machine represents a complete PC, including the processor, memory, network connections and peripheral ports. So you can run Windows, Linux and a host of other operating systems side-by-side on the same computer.

Virtual machines can not compare to a full install of an OS on a partition.
