I have two PCs. One of them XP sp1 is installed on, the other XP sp2. When I want to connect them together via Lan that computer on which XP SP2 is installed says limited connection , and I can't connect them together.
I always have difficulty with computers with SP2
I would be grateful if you help me

Welcome to the Forums!!

How are you connectiong them (directly to each other, or to a router/switch/hub?) Are both computers a member of a work group?

What IP address, subnet mask do you have for each machine?

Have you tried turning off the windows firewall (or any other firewall)?

Let us know what you have and I am sure we will get you fixed up. Good Luck!

Thanks for you almost prompt reply.
I have connected them by a cross cable, not a switch, router or other things only lan cable. I turned the firewall off.
When 2 PCs have XP sp1, I can successfully connect them, but when there is pc with XP SP2 I get stuck. I think I can't handle setting of the SP2.

1. why do you need to connect them together? (does one of the PC's have a modem or second ethernet connection on it?)
2. SP2 included many networking updates which is most likley the cause
3. try using cmd.exe and ipconfig to set IP addresses to 192.168.1.0 and 192.168.1.1 (we did this with a cross over cable in cisco using windows vista computers and we could ping each other after turning off the firewall)

1-Both of them have modem but not ethernet.
2-I want to play game on both

start - run in the "open" box type "CDM" click OK - (you will now be in command prompt) type "ipconfig" then press enter.

Post the results.

I would like to see what the gateway of each computer is.

Your result will look like this:
