20+4 pin main connector the same as 24 pin?

Simple question requiring a simple answer.
My new motherboard requires a 24 pin main connector but my power supply has a 20+4 main connector. I get the idea that the 20+4 connector was designed to work on either type of board, 20 pin or 24 pin. Please tell me that I'm correct and don't have to get another PSU.

that powersupply will work with your motherboard if you use all 24 pins.

If I'm thinking correctly the 4pin is the ATX12v, not the same as a 24 pin. Your board probably requires both a 24 pin and a 4 pin. You can get 20 to 24 pin adapters for the main power connector.

Does your PSU have a 2x2 4 pin connector additional to the 20+4?
