2010 Macbook Pro HDMI Out!

It doesn't come with one, but I see that there is a way to do it. Has anyone had any experience with this? How well does it work? Does it kill the quality of video/audio?

I have a lot of movies on my computer and would love to be able to just stream movies from my Mac onto my TV.

I know that you can buy the adapter so you can hook up to the HDMI but as far as I know that is all you can do. Are you talking about putting a HDMI into the computer itself? I would think that is impossible because you would have to alter the case itself which could cause more problems then it is worth.

Like I said there is a adapter for it but from what I read using this adapter your max resolution is 720p which is fine if you have a Intel HD gpu cause there max display resolution is only 720p.

No no no, not internally install it. Just it possible to use my Macbook for HDMI out so I can put movies onto my TV.

I am also wondering what the piece is and how well it performs. By your description, it seems to work well! 720p is fine!

I'm using a dongle to DVI on my macbook. One thing to note is either my port or my adapter is a tad screwed, so I have to have it in juuust the right position for it to display the video without funky colors or lines. It works for me because my macbook is just there to stream media to my bedroom TV so it's stationary.

Also max resolution should be higher than 720p, pretty sure it's something a little higher than 1080p, although hdmi might limit you to 1080p.

The piece is called a mini display port to hdmi adapter. You can buy an Apple branded one from Apple for like 50 bucks or cheap knockoffs on ebay for like 15 bucks.

Haha, it's not $50, but more expensive that it should be. The rocketfish (Best buy brand) is $25 and supports up to 1920x1200.

Well there we go! That's what i'm talking about! And I just gotta hook that up to my HDMI port on my TV and that's it? Pretty much?

You hook the adapter to the Mac, then use an HDMI cable << gotta have that too. Either way, just restart the mac and it should automatically recognize it

It does not matter what that adapter resolution is, it s your GPU. If you have a Intel HD 3000 you max resolution no matter what you do it 720p. Which is fine but I feel bad for the people who buy cables promising a higher resolution when there system will not reach those performance numbers.

Haha, I was guessing, since the vga one was $35. Hence the "like"

I'm curious to see where you get this info.

From Apple.com

Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory5
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colours

I don't see any type of these adapters on Apples website.

Could any of you guys link this from apple?

What's the actual name of the piece? Or what part of the Macbook am I actually plugging it into? Like ie... USB to HDMI adapter (just an example!)

The Apple adapter is $25-$30, however I bought one on Amazon for $2.50, it looks great but I haven't tested it yet.

I'm not a big fan of those Amazon cables. I've bought several and they never work well or last long. Particularly USB extensions.
