21" Monitor is blurry

I just got a Compaq Qvision 210 free from a friend. Everything displays correctly but it is somewhat blurry. The resolution is at 1280 X 1024. It seems like there are ghosted images to the right of everything.....they are very faint but are causing it to be slightly blurry. What is causing this.....I already tried changing the refresh rate but that did not help any. Could it be a problem with the monitor?
 
My guess would be that your friend gave it to you because he was having that problem as well, and he wanted a new one. I dont think its easily possible to fix it.

Well for that size monitor i would try 1600 X 1200 if it supports it.
 
Even if it is bad....it is just a temporary monitor until I can get a large LCD monitor. I'm thinking of a 19" widescreen...I would go for 20 but the price difference between 19 and 20 is ridiculous ($100). Anyway....I will probably keep the 21" up for now because even with the blur it is better than the 14-15 that I had up there. I'm thinking of using the small one as a secondary in a dual setup. That will give me the best of both worlds until I get a new one.
