24 pin mothebroard only 20 pin PSU

My new motherboard has a 24 pin power conection, i hear from a local cpmputer shop that some motherboard will run with just a 20 pin power connection in it . Is this true or wil i need to buy a converter??

I would get a power supply with the proper 24pin power connector. Even though you may be able to run the 20pin power connector it could void any warranty you have on your new motherboard.
 
Do you think it would be fine if it were to run on a 20 pin for a few days ? thne i can get a convertor to make 20 pins 24 pins.
