240watt work with a 8600/8500gt?

hi,im going to buy a old p4 for little gaming rid(not high end games)for fun so im buying a "reconditioned"(used) computer heres the specs

P4-3.0ghz
ram-1gig
HDD-40gig drive
os-xp pro
Power supply-240watt

i am kind of conserned with the power supply,becuase i would like to atleast put a 8600gt in there but can it work with such a small power supply?If that wont work would a 8500gt work?

itll be ok for a little while with the 8500gt but the 8600gt would be to much for 240 watts i think

I'm not an expert on this topic, but I'm thinking that 240W is too small for your system regardless of the graphics card used. You may want to use a PSU calculator to see what would be recommended and go from there. There's a few calculators on the web but here is one in case you need an example.
