256mb ddr3 or 512mb ddr2

i can get a 256mb ddr3 or a 512mb ddr2

both are 8600gt's

Only get higher memory in a video card if you play at ridiculous resolutions... (1680X1050+) Other than that, get the faster memory version.

256 DDR3. The DDR3 allows a much faster memory speed, resulting in a higher bandwidth and better performance.

Which card is this going on? I'm guessing a mid-ranged card since no newer cards use GDDR2, so in that case go with the 256MB of GDDR3.

EDIT: I just noticed it's for the 8600GT, I would still go with the 256MB of GDDR3.

8600gt couldnt handle high res or AA, so 256mb is more than enough for it.

If the 8800GTS uses 320MB, then I doubt 512 is even needed. DDR3 256 man.
