256mb or 512mb gpu card

Geforce 8800 Series

future proof gaming and also supports hdcp

8800GTS or 8800GTX both support the HDCP feature, DX10, and are both MORE than 512mbs of ram. You don't get anymore future proof than the two of those cards. Of course they are $$$ at $489 and $649 respectively :D

which one?

You should know by now that memory size isn't all that matters. There are low end 512MB cards, and high end 256MB cards.

If you have alot of money, the 8800GTS for $500 or the 8800GTX for $600 would be the best choice. But if you cant afford those, either the 7900GS/GT/GTO or x1900XT/X would be great choices as well.

Do you even know what HDCP is?

i don't know of any people who worry about High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection being a required feature in their video cards... :P ...

EDIT: dammit, i was beat to it... i guess he/she does really know...

It would be a good idea to get an HDCP compatible video card if you don't plan on upgrading in the next year or two, and/or if you plan to buy a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player in the near future. In order to watch those movie formats, you need an HDCP compatible video card and monitor.
