2D graphics glitch - help!

Hiya,

Bit of a wierd one. My computer is an old AMD 366. I've had it ages. Up to recently, it only had a 2D card in it. When I played movies, or some games(like Delta Force), the screen has lots of horizontal lines where the movement occured, which then gradually disappear, almost as if its not updating quick enough.

On films, as its constantly moving, horizontal lines spring from everything! I put this down to the video card not having enough RAM, or something (it was only 1MB!) However, recently I got a 2nd hand TNT2. However, I have exactly the same problem. The TNT2 is fine in 3D mode. Also Windows is fine, its only when playing 2D games, or watching films ie fast moving 2D. All drivers are up to date.

Its therefore not the video card, but something else. Could some setting in the BIOS be wrong?

Any help much appreciated, as its quite annoying! I know I should get a new computer, but other than this prob, my ones does me fine! >;o)

The drivers are bang up to date - the 55.66 (??) reference ones from Nvidias site. The glitches are with all films - DVD's, VCD's, the in-game films, such as in Warcraft3. Basically, taking Warcraft 3 as an example, the actual game engine is fine. The game runs fine (well, as fine as you'd expect on a 366!), and the sequences using the 3D in-game engine are fine. However, the in-game film parts ie. pre-rendered animation have the line problem.

The line problem is also present with fast-moving 2D games, as with Delta Force. Basically, the 3D runs fine, and 2D normally is fine, as in windows desktop, Word, all normal applications. The problem shows itself with all film footage, whether a movie or in-game, and fast moving 2D rendering.

All dXdiag tests run fine, direct draw runs fine (running DX9 at the mo). But it isn't the video card per se, as I had the same prob with my original 2D card. I've tried altering refresh rates - no change. Can there be something in BIOS? I've tried playing with various video settings, that I don't really know what they do in BIOS, without affect.

Very strange. I've built many a computer and repaired many a computer, but this one has me stumped >:o( Thanks for your help, any more suggestions please!

With respect to the movies, what player are you using? Some players have "enable hardware acceleration" as an opption :) For the gaming, do you accidentally have the video acceleration set to something other than full? :)

Thanks for your help. Currently using PowerDVD 4. Although I've tried others with the same effect. I've tryed hardware acceleration on and off - no effect. Gaming - acceleration is full. Monitor driver is installed (I mean the .inf file) and all recognised fine.

I've tried different refresh rates and the various options in the driver settings - no effect.

Basically the comp is working fine other than this glitch.

Something else I forgot to mention - on Warcraft 3, after it has played the corrupt movie, it crashes out. I have to skip the movie before its finished playing in order to continue. This suggests to me the problem is "more serious" than just a refresh rate, ie. something with the way the computer is handling the program.

I tried to get a screenshot, but the captured picture looked fine!

Hmmmm....mysterious......
