2nd pc can't communicate with router for some reason..

Hi all,

on my dads pc the internet connection keeps cutting out randomly. Sometimes it works, sometimes doesn't. But the weird thing is that everything seems fine, apart from the fact that I can't even ping my router when this happens (i simply get no reply, it just times out with 100% packet loss). Yet when i look at his network status it says connected, my modem and router seem fine and the ethernet over power connectors (Netcomm NP285) which i use for that pc show a connection as well.. Can anybody please give me some suggestions on how i can find out what the problem is?

(On my other pc which is connected to the router via patch cable everything is fine with my connection)

Please let me know if you need some more info, I'm not sure what else you need to know because I don't know too much about networking :o

ok, i might halve solved it just then! They didn't have the same static ip, but i noticed that somehow the ip on the second pc was not set to the static ip i assigned it anymore, and the new one was outside of the DHCP address range i have set on my router. But I still couldn't get a reply from my router, so I went back to basics once again and there you go: my brother had changed the plugs around to fit something else and put the netcomm adapter on a multiplug extension cord. I changed it around so that it plugs straight into the power socket now, and that seems to have fixed the problem. :D

thanks for your help! I wouldn't have tried that if it wasn't for your answer :)
