Hey all.. i'm about to do some upgrades on my computer, RAM is one of them... i was wondering whether it mattered ifI got 2 sticks of 512 Mb RAM or 1 Stick of 1 Gb RAM... apart from the obvious benefit of 1 Gb takin up less room....

Thanks

okay... well ive never really understood Dual channel.... All I konw is I'm getting a K8NF9 Ultra Mother Board... AMD 64 3700+ CPU a 6600GT and that... I think the RAM is just DDR 400... thats not dual channel aye?

Most modern motherboards (manufactured year 2003 to the present) are usually capable of dual channeling.

Socket 754 motherboards dont support dual-channel, where as socket 939 boards do. If you have a socket 939, i would get 2x 512MB sticks.

Taken from here, your motherboard does support dual channel, so in that case definately 2x512MB. I think if you get a kit of two dual channel modules, they are tested together before they're boxed, so you can be sure they're stable.
