3.5 IDE hard drive enclosure

Hello,

I have an old lap top that no longer works. I would like to recover files from it but I am having difficulty doing so. It is an ancient gateway and has a 3.5" IDE hard drive. I am having difficulty finding an enclosure to turn it into an external hard drive.

The enclosure cases all seem to have inputs for a hard drive that has a male end. This hard drive has a female-like end. Any tips as to how to purchase an enclosure case or recover information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Check to see if there is a small header attached to the HDD which changes the connector from male to female. If there is, you can remove the header and it should then be a "normal" ide connector and be able to be installed in an enclosure or you could use one of those ide/usb adapters.

Take a pic of the HDD. I have the feeling you have a port adapter attached to the HDD.
