3 Hdds ebay..

bought 3 hdds from a guy on ebay.. said they were pulled from working computers. AS IS. got em, (1 WD and 2 Quantum) only the WD worked. one of the Quantums ran, slowed down the RPMs alittle, clicked, and died. the other one just buzzed. ????



not bad PSU or anything like that
 
There's no surprise seeing that the WD kept going despite what happened to the others. You got rooked on those. Next time you buy "used" make sure you stick with WDs. You will find yourself in a better situation. The other drives went toast on you. If it was the supply the WD wouldn't be working either. Sorry but you got stuck with a pair of Quantum losers. Ebay? "enter at your own risk" should be on the banner.
 
not always, had a segate 3210 (3.249 Gb), replaced with better one , tested it one day (left for months...) didnt work, just died.

Besides the likely wear and possible damage from pounding these drives may have seen how are setting them up? If you are not setting the jumpers correctly for the configuration you have them in they will remain invisible and not even seen at post time onscreen when all drives are tested then. Depending on the board or system you are running the second and maybe primary drive may have to be set as cable select and not master or slave.
 
no, i just put jumperson them and they stilldont work. best way to get rid of em? (well i just collect them for a hobby)
 
Are you trying them one at a time or slaving one to another? Try setting each as master on the primary ide to see what happens. If you hear "noises" from any of them then you know where the recycle bin is! :P
 
to be truthful.... i have a conner phripheral *whatever you spell it* 40mb hard drive... and i just slaved them all, some of the hdds made my computer not detect the master!

Could remove the platters and sell them on eBay for precious metal recovery for about $10.

Or, what I like to do. Take the ones that run, and take the top cover off and plug them in. All kinds of fun... Take something sharp and put it on the disk while it's spinning and make designs. Careful though... a friend of mine hit one with a pair of pliers while I was doing this and the disk exploded sending micro shrapnel everywhere.

Now that's using your jargon for something besides a hat rack! :P The application there is called "Common Sense"! I've worked with high speed machine tools as well as testing electronic equipment where you can see things happen fast! :eek: ! "yeeoow!"

Try having a drill bit shatter on CNC equipment and just sit there and spin on the lens of your safety glasses. Then there are times when a capacitor goes "ka-BOOM" up in smoke. These happen when you are just doing your normal job and not trying anything... "stupid"?!
