3 pin connector

Ok so I am building my very first pc, but when I press power it switches off after about 6 seconds. Now I have tested some stuff to try and find the problem and it seems like it is either the 3 pin connector on my M/B or the Corsair H60 watercooler it is connected to because when I switch it on without it being connected it doesn't switch off.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The only way to troubleshoot this is to try a different cooler. If it shuts off then you know its the port on the motherboard.

If it IS the motherboard would I be able to use an adaptor to switch it to a 4 pin? I know it's not really solving the issue but...

You could but the problem being you will get a cpu fan error on bootup most likely. I would just rma the motherboard if its bad.

How do you have it hooked up? The 3 pin cooler motor goes on the CPU fan header. You can plug a 3 pin on the 4 pin CPU headed without a adaptor.
