I was wonder if I could get some help putting together a good desktop.

I will list some of the Specs of the desktop I'm currently running and would like to know what kind of differences I would notice as well as whether or not I should even bother changing PC's.

I'm not lazy so if there's anything I can do to assist this process please let me know. Here are some of my Specs as listed by CPU-z, any and all help is much appreciated and thanks in advance. :)

Also how much do you think a computer with the specs I have listed could sell for? I have 2 hdd's and this is all I could find in terms of what they are:

Model ST350032 0AS SCSI Disk Device (~500gb),
Model WDC WD25 00JS-60NCB1 SCSI Disk Device (~250gb)

well if your going to sell that, your not going to get much for it whole. you would get more if you sold parts individually. if your going to by something new, i wouldnt go for the laptop if you plan on doing any heavy gaming.

Thanks for the prompt response and I appreciate your feedback. For the PC that I might sell I have someone I could try and sell it to that's why I was wondering how much I could push to get for it. As for the laptop thing I'm just keeping it open cause I'm curious as too how bad laptops really are for gaming.

I dont think you want to put a laptop gaming rig together.
Most people only buy DESKTOP gaming rigs.

Thank's for the response though.

i wouldn't really opt for a laptop, the gaming style of a laptop is heavy, big, and bulky in general, you might be able to get a single nvidia 8800gtx Mobile in a laptop that price, but you could probably get a nvidia gtx280 for the same price(currently the fastest graphics card)

Alright I've thought more carefully about the laptop thing and you guys are right. So scratch the laptop, just a very nice desktop. :)

i would wait until somewhere around september at the latest to build, i think the processor drop is supposed to happen by then when a qx9650 will only cost a reported $512 american

You're probably thinking of the Q9650, they will never sell an "Extreme" model for that cheap. If you do wait until September, then the next gen CPU's and GPU's will be released soon.

I'd say wait another week or two for the 4870's to come out, you should be all set for several months then, as I don't believe anything new thats major is coming out between now and then.

heres what i came up with without a moniter, but im assuming you already have one:
os: vista ultimate 64 bit
cpu: intel q9450
mobo: ASUS P5Q3 DELUXE
memory: 4gb of corsair dominator ddr3 1800
graphics: evga gtx 280
hdd(s): 1 western digital velociraptor, and 1 500gb W.D. caviar
case: coolermaster cosmos S(you can pick a different case if you like)
psu: antec tpq-850 850 watt power supply
speakers: Logitech X-240 25 Watts 2.1 Speaker
grand total of $2,970.86 from newegg
p.s. currently the fastest i could come up with for now

Hey thanks for the response and yea, I wasn't planning on making any purchases till later in the year anyhow (As I can't at the moment, no $$$).

Would I notice a suuuper huge difference in gaming between this setup and what I currently have? (Yellow stuff I don't need, I have vista ultimate and bose headphones =)

Check out the pc's available on E-bay to get a current market price on your system. I would consider Crucial Ballistix RAM instead of Kingston.
