if I were to use a 7300GT which is the best card I could find that works at 300W, would it be slower than if I had a better PSU, in benchmarks or anything, and also would it affect overclocking. thanks in advance.

if thats its reccomended, it prob wouldnt make a difference, but why dont you just get a new PSU? the 7300 sucks.

nah, the 7300 has its pros and cons, but it doesn't suck, and yes, you would probably need another psu. it would help a little in o/c'ing, and you can never have anough power. :D also, no matter the hype, overclocking, at it's best, only upgrades you gpu aroung 15%. no huge upgrade. you see, if it has a 500mhz core speed, and you overclock it 50mhz (alot in most cards cases) you would only get a 10% increase in game performance, if that. so if you were getting 10fps, now you would get eleven. big whoop you know?

Well, apparently theres an X800GTO that supposedly can run with a 305W supply, according to a review, although it has no information regarding the requirements in the specs, and that means a 5 watt difference. now would this card be better AND run on a 300W supply? or is it even worth the risk.

I could end up upgrading my PSU eventually but I think I might stick with it for a while. having a top notch or even mid quality graphics card isn't a huge concern for me. Ill probably be buying a sub-100$ graphics card anyways.

Im not too trusty of the cooling system on the computer Ill be getting the card for, so actually I might not even overclock my card.

the x800GTO wipes the floor with a 7300GT,and it should run fine,if not,a cheap psu can be bought.Doesn't have to be fancy, just make sure its on the heavy side so you know you're getting good quality in it.

Lets just say that you will be dissapointed with the 7300. You would be better off with a x800 or x850 series card. I would not add a card and keep your stock PSU. You are just asking for trouble there.

i'll have to agree, have one, and i've never purchased a better card. and no, my x800 could never run on a 305w, it would burn up like an egg in the san francisco heat on the side-walk... get what i'm saying?

My x850pro ran on a 300 watt psu for a good 3 months without a hiccup.

@janco. Get the 7600GS, after rebates it only like 80 bucks, better card than the 7300gt.

alright, well is the 7600GS better than the x800, and x850pro? I dont need an nvidia card, Im just looking for a cheap one that can run CSS and mid end games.

I guess Ill end up getting another PSU. what would some of you recomend, in terms of wattage and stuff. I don't know much about PSU's. I was thinking a 400W would be all Id need, and maybe a 350 depending on what money I have left when I buy my compaq.
