32 bit 64 bit??

Gentlemen,

I consider myself computer literate but I have always been hardware oriented.

I currently run xp 32 bit xp but have just acquired a 64 bit machine to experiment with linux, etc.

My question is can I install xp 32 bit on a 64 bit Athlon? What are the implications? Why is 64 bit windows better on a 64 bit machine. I have no use for huge amounts of memory as I do not work with video, etc.

Other than being able to access more ram, are there any advantages to 64 bit?

Really, if you have a 64-bit processor, use 64 bit. 32 bit programs will still work on the 64 bit version. Go 64-bit unless you are using really old programs. Like really old.

When going 64 bit watch out for legacy hardware (printers, scanners, cameras) as they may not support 64 bit.
