32 bit and 64 bit?

was talking to one of my friends who is also a tech and he said if you have 4 gb of ram you HAVE to have 64 bit as 32 will not work, i didnt think this was true. is it?
 
Basically with 64-bit, you get 64-bit programs, lack of 16-bit support, and the ability to use more than 4GB of RAM
 
he means if you have more than 3gb ram its not worth having a 32bit version operating system, although someone should tell acer i did an amd based acer laptop the other day with 4gb ram and 32 bit vista, you wouldn`t expect that from a company like acer
 
bottom line with 32 bit it will see at least 3-1/2 gig. I have win 7 pro 64 and nothing diff. see's 4gig.
install it and don't worry about it. Later you can upgrade if that's your plan. Click start, right click computer then properties you will see. Linkin is correct.
