Okay, one of my mates has basically the same setup as mine at the moment except for the ram. He has an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (A), 1.5GB Ram and at the moment he has a Radeon 9600. He has an AGP slot and want's to know what would be the best AGP card he can get with around £120.;)

EDIT: He could stretch to £150.:)

i would be happy to answer this!

i have similar spec.... athlon64 3200+, 1.5gig ram and x850xt pci-e

for about 150 bucks..... and for current year and time..... x850xt/pe is the way to go! is the best way to go!! most people will think that newer card such as x1600s or 7600s is better than older high-end card jus cuz they are new but really old or new it does not matter! it matters bout the card itself! it matters individually!

if you planning to play pc games that have shader 3.0 and planning to use shader 3.0.... u can forget about getting a x1600sDOWN/7600sDOWN..... they are not that fast in speed and not that great in performance via shader 3.0! shader 3.0 eats up lots of power! and those card cant seems to have the amount of power capacity needed! also shader 3.0 needs a high cpu and lots of system ram. so if u planning to play games on shader 3.0, its a must for atleast x1800sUP/7800sUP.

if u jus gonna play games using shader 2.0..... then best bang.... value and peformance is...... x850xt/pe! i got mine for only 111.111 us dollars! and u can even get it cheaper these days! i am very happy and satisfied with mine! i can play most main stream and current games on max settings with 1280x1024 resolution without a problem!

also want to point out.... if u already have x700pro or 6600 or x1600 or 7600 etc.... and playing a mmorpg most of time.... and have budget..... in this situation u gotta upgrade the ram first! and i mean system ram. ram is most crucial for any mmorpg game! as u notice mmorpgs laggs alot and when lot lags alot.... and ull be getting a sudden chunk of laggness..... to reduce that u need a chunk of ram! ram helps stablizing.... and bo0st up steady-ness.

Would it run his 350W psu?

what card u talking about? the x850 or the x1950xt? if the x1950xt... then the answer is hell no0!!! well it could but itll fauk up ur system!

sorry for my language and sorry for the double post.. was trying to fix my grammer and sentences....

Firstly, it won't break his computer it just wouldn't boot up. What do you think i am?:(
Secondly, i'll have to make sure he gets a new psu then. Would an Antec Earthwatts 430W work?

in all honesty i think he'd get away with the current psu if its a half decent one running that x1950xt.

Hopefully someone would confirm that, my thinking is that although the gfx card might be reasonably powerful in drawing power from the psu i dont think the rest of the pc is getting anywhere near as much and as such it should be ok.

If he is thinking of changing the psu if its a problem then why not get the x1950xt and give it a bash, ebuyer have a wonderful RMA system anyway so any issues and you can send it back happily :)

Yes, ok thanx m8.

He said he want's to get that Antec Earthwatts 430W as well just to make sure.;)

He was reluctant at first, but he's managed to swindle an extra couple of quid out of his folks!:)

I have the A EW380 and it's very good!

It isn't as good as the card you mentioned but is still very good, the ATI X850 Pro. Worth a try.
