32bit/64bit processor

lmao dont tell me your using an intel processor these days. 64 bit are release with someone games already also windows xp. So if i were you ill just wait until they fix all the bugs in windows xp 64 bit and then go for a 64 bit processor and avoid 32 bit intel or celeron.
 
ok so then how can you get a athlon64 chip which is 64bit and still have XP that is 32bit and it works and runs fast. cause arent most gamers useing athlon64 chips(64 bit) and just running a normal version of XP?

i'd say about 99% are still on 32 bit o/s's

Yes you can use a 64-bit cpu on a 32bit OS. I am, as well as most 64Bit cpu users.
 
so then what are the real advantages?

doesnt a 64bit cpu take a bigger bite out of memory that it can process, or is it that on a 32bit OS it still only takes 32bit bites?

Alot of the people that buy Athlon 64's dont buy it for the 64 Bit part, they are very nice processors even if you use it for 32 Bit apps.

True, in fact to go further... the performance of the chip is not effected by whether you use a 64bit o/s or a 32bit o/s, or for that matter a 16bit o/s
 
exactly...you might as well get a 64 bit......uh...well, um....GO 64 bit, because sooner or later, it will be utilized, and you dont want to have to switch to it when you just bought something on 32 bit a year ago. very annoying to have something new, only for it to become obsolete in a short period of time. as for how LONG, its hard to say...it depends on the amount of patience you have when the technology you have starts to get a little stale.
