3800+ singlescore problem?

When we first got it last year, we applied thermal paste etc... The temp was about 42C, about 50 full load.

Now it idles around 54, and up to 60C+ on full load, causing games to slow down.

We just re-applied new thermal paste, and the cpu temp still shows the same, 54C, and up to 60C+ full load.

What's going on?

TEMPS going up to 82C @ idle

There was enough thermal pace applied. hs fan works perfectly, both hs+fan make full contact on cpu/mobo.

Computer is dustless inside, everything seems to be working properly.

There is only 1 problem, we found out the exhaust case fan wasn't working. But i don't think that is the problem. Having that exhaust casefan off brings up the cpu temp from 42C to 82C? Something it going on here. Not sure what. Any ideas?

i would take it apart clean off everything start over( 80c wow)...what kinda paste you using? make sure the HSF is on the real good to..

Just re-applied new thermal paste with a different method and the temps are still the same. The thermal pace i used is a good one i think, we used it last it last year. The thermal paste is about 1 year old. Could thermalpaste expire? Can they go bad? This has never happen d to me before.

Everything is perfect.

1. Cleaned the chop&hs clean, i then Applied the right amount of TP.
2. cpu is properly in, hs has contact with mobo
3. HSF fan works well.

It seems like i did everything right, not one error.

So what could this be? Maybe the thermal paste is too old? hmmm?

If it was in the tube, then I doubt the TP would go bad that quickly. Long-shot, but is there a lip of the HSF caught up on a capacitor? Even off by a mm is enough to see super-high temps.

You would be surprised to know how much heat a Exhaust fan will pull out of the case, but 42 to 82 does seem like alittle much.

I think its just a bad temp program/temp sensor is gone bad, you are looking at the temp sensor in bios right? Most bios are defaulted to turn the computer off at anywhere >70c...

turn it on, wait till it gets good and hot, and put your hand by the cpu and see if it feels hot...@ 80c you should be able to feel the heat around the cpu

80c and the the heat sink will burn you. I would try getting new thermal gel. Who knows, maybe that stuff dries up over time?

My 3800+ runs smoothly around 30-35°C degrees. Make sure the block and the cpu are making a good contact with each other. And you are watching at your bios, right? And yes indeed, feel if the CPU block is hot or not. If you can't hold you fingers more then 3 seconds or less, then you need to check everything and bring it to a store.

Damn, 80°C is the limit of a CPU...
