3870 Crossfire

Ok well i figured im gonna get the crossfire option (vs 8800GT SLI).

Reasons:
X38 mobo with support of a FSB of 1333 and 1600
DDR2 support till 1200 (they say DDR3 is useless till 1 or 2 years)
And generally cheaper

Now i need to see crysis and CoD4 Benchies please (can anyone post them if any?)

And im gonna get a 22" screen with High res.

Now one thing i need to know is, when will the new ATI cards come out.
Is it worth waiting for them (ill get my 2 card either in may or August)

thanks guys

Ya, ThatGuy16 maxes out all settings on CoD4 and gets his FPS stopped at 92, BUT, like I told him (which im not sure if he saw the post or not) go into your Consol in game and type in
/cg_drawfps 1
to show your FPS in top right corner, then type in
/com_maxfps 250
to make the FPS cap a maximum of 250 FPS.

Im not sure as much about crysis, but im pretty sure he said he can max out all settings except FPS (which is still high anyway)

I haven't tried changing the cap yet. It only caps on multiplayer at 91 fps and rarely touches 80. Now, if I'm on a server with 60 or more people, then I'd say the average fps is in the 60-70 range. on single player, it can go as high as 150fps in places.. of course in combat, it'll be in the 70-90 range.

Crysis, on high i get 50fps with the benchmark. I think i should get more, but i think either drivers or crysis need to come out with better patches

See but you got a better computer aswell. Will that affect me badly with FPS (condsidering my comp?). How much?

But I will up by the end of the year.

Also will i need a new PSU?

You mean your "future" computer? what do you mean?

You'll need a better PSU than that 500w one you have now..

of coarse. i have to. I need to support Xfire

Im getting this one
Gigabyte EX-38 DS-4

But yeah what about my CPU (ill up to a 2.66Ghz Quad)
How many FPS will i lose cause of it (damn my CPU does suck, 2mb of L2 Cache)

your cpu will be choking these in crossfire. But you will definitely need to upgrade to get fair performance. If you get the Q9300, i would even overclock that.

ThatGuy16 claims in every thread than Crossfire scales better but thats untrue. He have just one outdated review that support his claims, but all the other reviews show a different story.

Please just look at this new up to date review that compares 9600GT in SLI to HD3870 in crossfire
http://www.techspot.com/article/88-geforce-9600gt-versus-radeon-hd3870/page3.html

9600GT in SLI outperformed HD3870 corssfire in campany of heroes

9600GT SLI performed better in Crysis

9600GT SLI performed better in FEAR when running AA

9600GT SLI preformed better in Prey when running AA

9600GT SLI performed much better in World in Conflict when running AA

So, overall 9600GT in SLI is better than HD3870 in crossfire specially when running AA and AF.

And there is no reason to compare them with AA off because there is no point in buying two video cards and turning off AA.
