My system: PIII 1.0ghz 133fsb 256mb cache (for those who dont know)
256 MB pc133 ram
32 mb geforce mx400 :( at least its a good oldie
creative soundblaster live
the rest is not that important

3dmark 2001 score with direct x 8.0= 2442
3dmark 2001 score with direct x 9.0= 2464

just wanted to see what ur opinions are on the score and to show that upgrading direct x makes a difference

i think the score could be so much better with a better vid card its probly bottlenecking my cpu badly, but im building new system soon so its staying where it is.

The vid card isn't bottlenecking the CPU, the whole system is just old. For a P3 I think 2000-3500 in 01' is a decent score, it'd be higher if you had more RAM though, what OS are you running?

thx for the reply

I was mostly guessing at the bottlenecking ive heard the mx400 were good vid cards, im running xp pro i think im still using sp1 b/c i thought i heard bad things about sp2.....1 hr later...lol just bought a stick of 256mb of Patriot memory from this shitty local store that doesnt really stock cpu stuff but had a few things it all looked like used but it was 19.99 and it maxed my cpuy memory out so im now running 512 mb total and it only improved my 3dmark score by 2, memory dont affect that as much though i dont think...anyway i also wanted to ask would an upgrade from my current system to an athlon 64 3200 (will probly oc a little) 512 mb memory and 256 mb PCIe vid card be a big jump in performance or not? for the cost that is, for what I need to buy ill be loking at 300-350 w/out a new case not sure yet if ill need a new psu...sorry for the long post

XP also is a memory hog, so that could be a problem if you're wanting better benchmark scores. Really benchmarks don't mean anything, but it's fun to compare/tweak. SP2 is fine, when it first was released alot of people had problems with it, but it's been patched a bunch already and I haven't had a computer throw up at me from it yet.
