i have 1gb of ram in my comp as we speak and i want to but 2 x 1gb sticks. so could i run 2 x 1gb sticks and 2 x 512's? would i encounter any problems? thanks :D

You shouldn't. Somewhere around there you'll find the onboard devices use the addresses that would normally go to RAM so It may look like you have less than 3GB.

The only problems I can think of would be if you're running duel channel... Though I seem to remember you being able to have two different kinds of RAM in a system as long as they are in pairs... Maybe someone can come around and correct me :P

First of all, as far as my knowledge goes(and it doesn't go very far :P), I don't think you should have any problems. Second of all, I don't think you really need 3 Gb's of RAM in your computer. 2 would do it for me, but your choice.
